Abbess [A-Bess]: The head of a Nunnery. A-Mi-Ta-To-Fu: "Buddha's Name be Praised" Dan Bing: A rolled crape shell with egg and often ham inside, usually served with a sweet sauce and eaten as a common breakfast food in Taiwan and some parts of China. Dao-Lu: A series of movements used by martial artists to practice their form or warm up before a competition, known more commonly in English by the Japanese term for it: Kata. Guan Yu [Gwan-Yu]: Also known as Lord Guan, one of the three central heroes of the Chinese epic Romance of the Three Kingdoms. (One of the best books ever written!) After his death he supposedly rose from the dead to protect his sons, and as a result achieved something akin to Saint status among the Chinese. He is effectively the patron saint of Taiwan, and can be recognized by his red face and long black beard. He is considered one of the most just and noble beings to have ever lived, and could be considered a god of warriors. Magistrate Dee: A famous judge from Chinese history. Mahjong: A popular Chinese board game played with heavy tiles. Similar to the card game Bridge. When someone has a winning hand, they shout "Kong!" Nunnery: Female counterpart to a Monestary, a religious retreat for Nuns. Qi [Chee]: Life energy, used by WuXia Martial Artists to enhance their performance and do other feats not normally humanly possible. The Dragon King: The Chinese God of the Ocean, similar to the Greek God Poseidon. The Monkey King: Chinese trickster god, most famously known for his role in the Chinese classic novel Journey to the West. Yang: Active, Masculine Energy, often Associated with Fire. Lu Xiao Feng finds himself face to face with the Golden Roc Emperor, and the secrets of an ancient empire are revealed. Knowledge brings power, but in this case, it also brings debts, obligations...and danger.
As a general note, at various times China has been dotted with minor kingdoms, especially in Western China where the terrain makes it difficult to travel. While there has been one central ruler for the central plains area of China for most (but not all) of history since the first Emperor, the farther West you go, the more the rule of Imperial law tended to break down.

The Adventures of Lu Xiao Feng, Book One, Chapter Two
Picking up where the last chapter left off, we find out where Lu Xiao Feng got off to as he escaped an "awful fate" at the end of the last chapter. As this chapter is a little short compared with the previous one, I'm putting up the whole chapter in one go. I don't think I'll hear any complaints. ^_-
I got another new microphone since I was unhappy with the quality of the last one, finally breaking down and getting a proper mic of decent quality. I'm still getting used to it, but from here on in the quality of the recordings should be pretty good, and consistant. Sorry about the varying quality of the first few parts, but at least we're all set now on the technical side of things.

Here it is, the second half of the first chapter of the Adventures of Lu Xiao Feng. Some new characters are introduced and the story begins the first of it's long road of twists and turns in a world where nothing and no-one is what they seem.
I also got a new microphone, so it will sound a little different (and better), I might go back and redo the earlier podcasts, but right now I want to focus on getting more of these out.
Originally these stories were a newspaper serial, and you can see some of that in the format and style of them. I even considered releasing them daily in the smaller parts like the newspaper would, but then decided you'd probably prefer them in chunks instead.

Here is the first half of Chapter One of the story. I decided to divide the Chapters into halves because they are quite long and it will make it easier to get them out on a more regular schedule. There are actually 11 full chapters plus a Prologue and Epilogue to this novel, so it will take a while to read the whole thing.
One thing I want to comment on that might annoy some people is the use of accents in the stories. I am using them to try and differentiate the characters more, and I know it's a bit of a hit/miss - love/hate thing for some readers. I think it's necessary, but if you feel otherwise please feel free to comment on them here so I can get some idea of how people feel about them.
The Extra notes for this Chapter will be up soon, although I don't plan to do Extra notes for every Chapter or story. I am mostly including them as my own thoughts and as a primer for those new to the genre.

The Adventures of Lu Xiao Feng was the first full WuXia novel I ever read, and it really helped me to fall in love with the genre. Although it is a little atypical, being more of a mystery-drama-thriller type story, it still has lots of action and revenge in it.
This story was translated by a kind translator named Moinelion over on http://www.wuxiapedia.com and then redited for reading by me to try and make some of it sound a little more natural.
This is the prologue to the story, introducing two of Lu Xiao Fengs best friends, however, I have cut out two other character introductions because they're not important (IMHO) to this book of the series. If you're curious about them, find the story on WuXiaPedia and check them out, but I can promise you you're not missing much without them and I'm not even sure why Gu Long included them in the prologue.
